Passports and visas for children
The following information may vary depending on the nationality of the children travelling. Therefore, this information is general and not universally applicable.

  • Passport: Children must have their own biometric passport. Since the introduction of the biometric passport, one travel document per person is issued2. The passport is required for travel to non-EU countries.

  • Visa: Whether a visa is required depends on the destination country. For some countries, such as the USA, a visa is also required for children if they do not fall under visa-free regulations.

  • Validity of the passport: Many countries require that the passport is valid for at least another six months at the time of entry.

  • Additional requirements: In some cases, such as travelling with only one parent or another companion, a declaration of consent from the parents may be required.

For LuxairTours package (flight+hotel) customers with a German, Belgian, French or Luxemburgish nationality, we have summarized the entry formalities for our destinations. This information is only valid for tourist trips of a maximum duration of 3 months. It often happens that entry formalities are changed. Travellers who fail to comply with the formalities bear the consequences themselves, for example that transport or entry into the territory of destination may be lawfully refused in the event of inadequate travel documents.
Please also check that the spelling of your first and last names on the official documents (passport, visa, identity card) corresponds to the spelling in the travel documents so that any changes can be made before departure.

UK ETA – Electronic travel authorisation for travel to the United Kingdom

From 2 April 2025, you will need an electronic travel authorisation, known as a UK ETA, to travel to the United Kingdom, without which you may be refused entry.

Who needs to apply for a UK ETA?

The United Kingdom Electronic Travel Authorisation applies to travellers who are citizens of visa-exempt countries and therefore do not require a visa to enter the United Kingdom.

The ETA does not replace a visa for passengers who require one, but it is required for travellers without a visa or other immigration status, including children and babies. The ETA does not guarantee entry into the United Kingdom.

You can check whether you need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) on the UK government's website.

How can the UK ETA be applied for?

The UK government website provides you with all the information you need to apply for the UK ETA. The easiest way to do this is via the official mobile app.

To apply, you will need a valid passport, a valid email address and a debit or credit card to pay the application fee. We recommend that you submit your application at least 72 hours before your departure to avoid unforeseen delays in the ETA being granted.

Once approved, the ETA is valid for multiple visits over a period of 2 years, provided that your passport does not expire before then.
