With subtropical landscapes and luxurious vegetation, desert areas, vertiginous cliffs and golden beaches, the Canary Islands have everything to offer you. Lanzarote, the land of lava and fire, Fuerteventura, with its nod to the Sahara, Tenerife, dominated by its fascinating volcano and Grand Canaria, with multitudes of magnificent beaches… they are all quite different. But each one of them offers a dazzling sun and a mild climate which guarantees a successful seaside holiday for all ages.
The incredible diversity of Tenerife’s landscape makes it an attractive place for visitors: subtropical valleys contrast with volcanic deserts, while Spain’s highest peak, Teide, provides the backdrop. Don’t miss: the botanic gardens in Puerto de la Cruz. Tenerife is an ideal destination for both seaside holidays and hiking or golfing holidays. The little island of La Gomera is only 30 min. away by boat and an excellent choice of destination for nature lovers and hikers.
This small harbour town is approx. 43 km from the airport. Until the mid-80s, Puerto Santiago was still a small town where people’s main source of income was fishing. Its family atmosphere is particularly suited to travellers looking for peace and quiet. The well-maintained and beautiful black sand beach, Playa de la Arena, is one of the main attractions of the south-west coast of Tenerife, where there is never a shortage of sunshine. As well as a little promenade along the length of the beach, there are a number of attractive restaurants and good places for shopping.
The seaside resort of Golf del Sur in the community of San Miguel de Abona was built around the golf course of the same name. Distance to the airport approx. 10 km only. There are some shops, cafés and restaurants next to an attractive development with several apartments. The much bigger seaside resort of Playa de las Americas, with its many attractions and sandy bays, is approx. 12 km away.
This region in the north of the island, approx. 100 km from the airport, has a subtropical climate. The transfer takes approx. 2 hours. Things to see include the famous botanic garden, the houses in the old port with their patios decorated with flowers, the Plaza shaded by laurel trees, the San Telmo chapel and the citadel. Puerto has all the major tourist infrastructure you would expect to find, including bars, cafés, restaurants, shops and a casino. In addition to its artificial black sand beach, Puerto de la Cruz is also famous for the ‘Lago Martiánez’ public seawater pools, with 8 swimming pools (chargeable). There are also two 18-hole golf courses in the north of the island: ‘El Peñón’ is approx. 20 km from Puerto de la Cruz, and ‘Buenavista’ approx. 25 km.
This seaside resort and residential development on the south-west coast of the island is approx. 28 km from the airport. There are also a few shops here. There is a scheduled bus service to the tourist areas of Playa Fañabe and Playa de Las Americas.
The community of Guía de Isora, with its quintessential little Canary Island towns of Alcalá and Playa San Juan, is well known for its banana tree groves. As we leave the coast, there is a magnificent view as far as La Gomera, with its little shops, bars and quintessential cafés. The 18-hole golf course ‘Abama’ is also located in the community of Guía de Isora.
This area consists of the seaside resorts of Playa de las Americas, San Eugenio, Playa Fañabe and Playa del Duque. Situated in the south of the island, 20 to 26 km from the airport. Sunny seaside resorts with several gently-sloping white sandy beaches and gardens overflowing with flowers. The promenade is several kilometres in length, dotted with bars and restaurants, and a wonderful place for a long stroll.
