The magic of southern Italy!

The first impression you will have when arriving in the Gulf of Sorrento is that Pompeii was reborn from its ashes, such is the vivacity of the region. Sorrento is perched on the cliffs overlooking the sea, and whilst its villas and palaces reminiscent of Roman times, it’s also a vibrant destination for exploring new things. A holiday in this region would not be complete without a visit the island of Ischia and its thermal baths, Capri’s famous Blue Grotto or the charming artists' village of Positano. Let yourself be charmed by these unique places, and when the heat gets too intense, treat yourself to a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters that shimmer along the coast.

Sorrento

Sorrento

Sorrento used to be a popular holiday resort for the Roman emperors and remains popular today! Get lost in its charm by walking along Corso Italia, wandering through the narrow shopping streets next to the Duomo or in the shade of the white palaces built into the cliffside. The eleventh-century church of St. Antonino and the Chiesa del Carmine, a Baroque church in Piazza Tasso, are absolute must-sees! The small beaches with pontoons below the cliffs are also perfect for a swim. Distance from airport: 50 km.

Vico Equense

Ischia

The island of Ischia is best known for its spa treatments, thanks to its volcanic soil and hot springs, but Ischia has much more to offer, including pretty villages dotted along beautiful beaches and a mountainous hinterland that will tempt you to go hiking. Sant'Angelo in the south is stunningly beautiful! Distance from airport: 56 km.

Massa Lubrense

Located in the hills around 7 kilometres from Sorrento, Massa Lubrense offers ideal conditions for a relaxing holiday in an authentic, picturesque setting. From this village, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the sea and Capri. Distance from airport: 58 km.

Must-do & Must-see - our suggestions

Must-do

  • Enjoy long walks along the Sorrento clifftops and take in the breathtaking scenery. The beautiful cliffs seem to plunge straight into the turquoise waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, and your gaze can’t help but fall on the majestic Mount Vesuvius, which looks out like a lighthouse over the Bay of Naples.
  • In Sorrento, stroll along Via San Cesareo, a lively pedestrian street. Here you'll be spoilt for choice if you're looking for a traditional grocery shop... The staff will be delighted to make you a delicious "panino" (sandwich) using fresh local produce. In Italy, food is a serious matter!

Must-see

  • Discover the islands of the Gulf of Naples, each of which has its own unique character. Capri, a glamorous destination frequented by icons such as Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly in the 1960s, is still very popular among the fashionable crowd. Ischia, on the other hand, is more popular with spa enthusiasts and on the more understated and secluded Procida, time seems to have stood still. All are well worth a visit!
  • It's hard not to fall under the spell of Naples, a bustling city full of contrasts and extremes. Naples is both restless and tireless. You'll love wandering through its maze of colourful alleyways, where history beckons at every turn. Don't hesitate to take a seat on the terrace of the first pizzeria you come across and order the famous "pizza margherita". Buon appetito!

Excursions

Excursions will allow you to discover your destination from all perspectives. LuxairTours offers a range of selected tours that will allow you to discover unmissable places, paradisiacal beaches, typical dishes... LuxairTours organises a range of quality excursions for you.

  • The excursion begins with a 20-minute hydrofoil crossing to Capri. The island's coastline is dotted with caves and rock formations of distinctive shapes. The highest points are Monte Tiberio (334 m) and Monte Solaro (589 m).
There are two villages on the island: Capri and Anacapri. Capri has always been a holiday resort, dating back to Roman times when several emperors stayed here (Tiberius - Villa Jovis). Since 1800, the town has been home to many artists (painters, sculptors, writers and poets).
In Anacapri, you can visit Villa San Michele, built at the end of the 19th century on the ruins of an ancient Roman villa by the Swedish writer-doctor Axel Munthe, who wrote The Story of San Michele here, which has since been translated into over 50 languages.

  • This excursion includes a lovely walk along the coast to Castellammare di Stabia and a visit to the ruins of Pompeii. Pompeii was a thriving little town at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, which was buried by its eruption of 79 AD. In 1748, by chance, the site of the town of Pompeii was discovered, but more extensive excavations were not undertaken until 1806.
In the afternoon, you will climb up to 1000 metres by coach to Vesuvius, then continue on foot to the crater (1279 m). Vesuvius is the volcano to the south-west of Naples. It has two peaks, the highest of which stands at 1279 metres. Vesuvius last erupted in 1944, and its slopes, made fertile by the lava, are home to the vineyards that produce Lacrima Christi wine.

  • You will drive along the magnificent Amalfi Coast in a van (max. 8 people). During your first stop (1 hour) in Positano, you can take advantage of your free time to stroll through the streets and shops and enjoy the charm of this enchanting place. The village is characterised by steep streets and colourful houses built into the hillside, but it is also known for its cotton and linen clothing.
The journey continues to Amalfi, Italy's first port town, which was also the birthplace of Flavio Gioia, inventor of the compass. He created the navigation laws that have gone down in history as the Tabula de Amalpha (Amalfi Laws). During your 2-hour visit, you'll see Sant'Andrea Cathedral, built in the 9th century in the centre of Amalfi, with its monumental staircase.
Ravello, a small village situated slightly above sea level, impresses visitors with its incomparable tranquillity. The Villa Rufolo, with its small cloister, towers and garden overlooking the Bay of Salerno, is a true work of beauty. Ravello was the inspiration for Wagner's Parsifal.

  • From the port of Sorrento, you will get on the typical Sorrento gozzo boat that will take you along the Sorrento coast towards Capri. During the boat trip you can admire the picturesque and colorful fishing village of Marina Grande, the ruins of the Roman villa known as Regina Giovanna, a natural waterfall and other interesting attractions the coast has to offer.
Once you arrive in Capri, you will explore it by boat and, thanks to several stops, you will be able to see the various impressive grottos. Furthermore, during the trip you will be able to discover the natural arch, the Villa Curzio Malaparte, the Faraglioni and the lighthouse of Punta Carena giving you the possibility of entering the blue grotto (entry ticket not included) if the sea conditions allow it and the waiting time does not exceed 30 minutes.
Moreover, you'll stop for a swim, snorkel, or enjoy a cold drink and snack (included in the price) on board. The boat then docks (landing fees not included in the price), giving you 3 to 4 hours to explore the island on your own before the return journey to the port of Sorrento.

  • From the port of Sorrento you set off in the direction of Amalfi on our typical Sorrento gozzo. During the boat trip you can enjoy the dreamlike scenery of the Sorrento coast: here you can discover, for example, the old fishing village of Marina Grande, the ruins of a Roman villa, a natural waterfall and the picturesque bay of Ieranto.
The Amalfi Coast, however, offers a magnificent view of the Li Galli Islands, the charming fishing village of Nerano and the Fiordo di Furore bay. During the stop you can swim, snorkel or simply take a relaxing break with snacks and drinks (included) on board.
You will then continue to Amalfi, where you will make a second 2-hour stop) to explore the former Maritime Republic. Afterwards, the tour continues to Positano (landing fees not included in the price). You will have approximately an hour to explore the "pearl of the Amalfi Coast" before the return journey to the port of Sorrento.
