  • To immerse yourself in Izmir’s culture, head to the Kemeralti bazaar to browse over 15,000 stalls selling clothing, colourful carpets, jewellery and handicrafts. While you're there, why not relax in a café or enjoy a cup of tea?
  • The quieter Promenade de Kordon runs along the shoreline and offers breathtaking views over the bay. It's a popular meeting place for locals, as well as a departure point for the ferries that take you to the opposite shore.
  • A trip to the Izmir region is not complete without an excursion to the Cesme peninsula, where white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters and picturesque village charm its many visitors. Discover the historic town of Cesme and the colourful streets of Alaçati... You won’t be disappointed!

 

Must-see

  • The Saat Kulesi clock tower, erected in 1901 on Konak beach, is Izmir’s most iconic landmark. The 25 metre high tower was designed in the typical Ottoman architectural style and was a gift from Wilhelm II to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sultan's throne.
  • Just a few hundred metres away, you’ll find Konak Pier. This historic customs building designed by Gustave Eiffel now houses an exclusive shopping centre, a cinema and several restaurants. From here, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the bay and the city centre.
  • For a breathtaking view of Izmir’s bay and port, take the Asansör, a gigantic lift donated to the city by a merchant in 1907. In the past, it spared residents of the city's highest districts from the arduous 115-step climb to get home. You can also visit the fortress of Kalifekale, which also boasts breathtaking views.

  • A visit to Ephesus ancient city is an absolute must whilst you are in Turkey. The ancient city of Ephesus was visited and patronised by Alexander the Great in 334 BC because of its importance as one of the Seven Wonders of the World is Artemis' Temple, the Greek Goddess of Moon and Hunting. 
    Over the following centuries it passed through various hands, reaching its peak under the control of the Romans, who built it up to become their Asian capitel. The silting of its harbout in the 3rd century spelled its end and over time the city became completely covered over until 1869 when it was discovered by a British archeologist. Even now the city is still being excavated and experts say that 75 percent of the city still remains buried. The amphitheathre in Ephesus is one of the worlds biggest, which held up to 25 000 people.   • The Kusadasi Gulf offers all visitors a great opportunity for sailing, swimming and relaxation. The gulf can provide a whole vacation in itself with many large naturel bays and numerous coves and inlets.   • The day begins with the pick-up from your hotel, followed by a visit to the local market in Kusadasi, where a wide variety of clothing is available at attractive prices. Even if you don’t wish to buy anything, you can use the free time to take a leisurely stroll, admire the colourful stalls, and soak up the vibrant oriental atmosphere.
    Next, you will continue to Değirmen Park to visit the renowned olive oil museum, where you can learn about the history of olive oil from ancient times to the present day. The museum also houses a unique collection of ancient tools and machines.
    A lunch made from organic products will be served afterwards, including a starter, main course, and dessert, accompanied by a glass of organic wine for adults or organic fruit juice for children.

  • Pamukkale, a three-hour drive from Kuşadası, is one of Turkey’s most extraordinary natural wonders. The site’s main attraction is an impressive white cliff featuring curved pools and frozen waterfalls, appearing as if sculpted from snow, clouds, or cotton.
    The stunning travertine formations have been shaped by the action of mineral springs rich in calcium oxides. These mineral-rich waters have flowed over multiple terrace levels, creating solidified waterfalls that dazzle with their brilliance and change colour with the sunlight.
    Another must-see site is the ancient city of Hierapolis, founded in 190 BC by Eumenes II, King of Pergamon. The city reached its peak during the 2nd and 3rd centuries as a prominent Roman spa centre.
    Visitors can also swim in Cleopatra’s sacred pool (at an additional cost), where the ruins of the Temple of Apollo are located. This pool, said to be the source of Pamukkale’s white terraces, is believed to have contributed to Cleopatra’s legendary beauty.

  • Samos was originally part of the coast of Asia Minor but separated from the mainland following enormous geological upheavals. Legend has it that the island was the birthplace of the goddess Hera. The Ionians colonised Samos around the first millennium BC, and it was later inhabited by the Carians and Pelasgians. The island reached its peak in the 6th century BC and was subsequently ruled by the Persians during the Persian Wars, before becoming a member of the Athenian Confederacy.

  • The old Greek town of Şirince lies about 9 kilometres from Selçuk and is surrounded by vineyards and orchards. Following the population exchange in 1924 after the Greco-Turkish War, the original Greek inhabitants left, and the current villagers arrived from the Thessaloniki area.
    Today, the village represents a perfect blend of Turkish and Greek culture from the 1920s. After the War of Independence, the typical Greek houses retained their original external features, while their interiors were redesigned according to local customs. The visit concludes with a stop at the Galata Gold Centre.
