This small fishing port, located close to some of the oldest salt works in the world, has gradually given way to a popular family seaside resort in the south-east of Mallorca. Its development has been gradual and has managed to preserve the gentle way of life of the past. Its proximity to the Cabrera National Park and its beautiful white sandy beaches bathed in translucent waters make it an ideal place for a change of scenery. A visit to Colonia de Sant Jordi is well worthwhile, with the fabulous beaches of Es Estanys and Es Trenc on one side of the town and Es Dolç and Es Carbo on the other. Mallorca's fourth-largest town is just 27 kilometres from the island's capital. The magnificent 18-hole Son Antem golf course, with its original vegetation, is around 4 kilometres away and has the largest driving range on Mallorca. Surrounded by rocky and wooded landscapes, the small bay of Santa Ponsa is located in the southwest of the island. Must-do

  • The Orange Express, which runs from Palma to the picturesque mountain town of Sóller, was once used to transport oranges and almonds by rail. This train is still in operation today, and is used to show visitors the island’s many attractions and most beautiful landscapes.
  • If you’re athletic and outdoorsy, take a day off from the beach and answer the call of the mountains! The Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a must-see. The charming villages of Deia and Valldemossa are also worth a day trip for those who are keen to see where famous artists and writers used to live.
  • Playa de Palma is well-known for its lively atmosphere. Its many trendy bars and nightclubs make it the place to be for partying.

Must-see

  • The image that immediately comes to mind when talking about Palma de Mallorca is its cathedral, La Seu, but this trendy cosmopolitan city has many other architectural, cultural and festive surprises up its sleeve. Take a Hop on / Hop off bus tour to get a full overview of Palma, with the freedom to spend longer in the areas you like most!
  • The Cap de Formentor, which marks the end of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range in the north of Mallorca, is definitely worth a visit for the magnificent view from its lighthouse. It is a simply spectacular sight!
  • Also in the north of the island, the Santuari de Lluc has a rich history which dates back across the milennia and its the perfect place for a spiritual getaway in the middle of the Serra de Tramuntana, a central spot when hiking through this low mountain range.

  • Cap de Formentor

    This excursion takes you to the north of the island, where you can experience a perfect blend of culture, shopping, and stunning natural landscapes. First, you’ll visit a traditional Mallorcan market where you can browse the stalls, hunt for bargains, and pick up some local handicrafts or trinkets. The tour then continues to the port of Pollensa for a boat trip* (weather permitting), before concluding with a stop at the famous Formentor beach, where you can swim or enjoy a leisurely stroll before heading back to the hotel.   • Grottes du Dragon

    From Palma de Mallorca, travel to Porto Cristo to explore the Dragon Caves (Cuevas del Drach), first mentioned by historians in 1338. The caves are situated 25 metres underground and stretch for 1,200 metres. Inside, you’ll find a remarkable display of stalactites, stalagmites, and other geological wonders shaped over centuries by water infiltration and natural forces. The galleries lead to an underground lake, which is 117 metres long and between 4 and 12 metres deep. Lake Edouard Alfred Martel, named after the speleologist who first crossed it, is one of the three largest underground lakes in the world.
    After the tour, enjoy a performance by four musicians and visit a pearl shop, where you can admire the creations or treat yourself to a piece of jewellery.

    This activity combines a visit to Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the Balearic Islands, with a trip to Valldemossa, a picturesque village nestled in the heart of the Tramuntana mountains. In Palma, you'll be enchanted by the vibrant atmosphere and cosmopolitan character of the city. The historic centre is home to the remnants of various civilisations, with must-see landmarks such as La Seu, the famous Gothic cathedral, and the Almudaina Palace, the official residence of the royal couple dating back to the 14th century. You’ll also have time to stroll along the marina or wander through the maze of narrow streets, lined with charming houses, chic boutiques, and cosy cafés.
    In Valldemossa, you can explore the village where George Sand and Frédéric Chopin spent the winter of 1838-1839. Upon arrival, you can explore the town at your own pace, or visit the Royal Charterhouse, its old pharmacy, the church, or the cells where the monks once lived.

  • Robinson boat

    This catamaran excursion will give you a unique perspective on the stunning bay of Pollensa, one of Mallorca’s most beautiful spots. With some luck, you may even spot dolphins swimming freely in their natural habitat. The trip begins early in the morning as you set sail towards Cap de Formentor, where the colours at dawn and sunrise are truly spectacular. During the crossing, you can enjoy a delicious coffee or hot chocolate and a pastry. Later, you will head out to sea in search of dolphins, where you’ll be able to photograph them or simply admire the show before returning to the port of Pollensa.

  • Valldemossa

    A trip to Mallorca wouldn’t be compelete without a stop in Valldemossa – a village that brings together culture, tradition, and romance in the heart of the Tramuntana mountains. LuxairTours will guide you through this authentic gem, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. As you wander through the village’s peaceful streets, you’ll have the chance to immerse yourself in Mallorcan culture and traditions. Discover the spot where the romance between Frédéric Chopin and George Sand began – a relationship that inspired many of their works.
    You’ll also get to explore local crafts and culinary traditions, such as coca de patata, a sweet potato cake that is particularly beloved in Valldemossa. If you have time, a visit to the Royal Charterhouse is a must. This former monastery now houses a museum with artefacts belonging to the artists and writers who passed through, as well as displays showcasing the legacy of the Carthusian monks and various works of art.
    Another highlight of your visit is the Farmacia de la Cartuja, one of the best-preserved pharmacies in Europe. It was founded by the Carthusian monks, and sold medicines made from medicinal plants they grew themselves.

  • Majorque

    The route begins at La Calobra, surrounded by the magnificent landscapes of the Tramuntana massif, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. La Calobra is characterised by its Torrente de Pareis, a spectacular canyon formed over the centuries by two mountain streams flowing into the sea, and at its foot, there is a beach between the two cliffs. After lunch, you will board a boat that will take you to the Port de Sóller along the rugged coastline, before taking a traditional tram through a valley lined with orange trees and colourful landscapes. Your journey will end with a ride to Son Reus in Palma on a train which dates all the way back to 1912, before returning to your hotel.

     

    Duration: Full day.

     

    Services included: Visit to Sa Calobra, boat transport from Sa Calobra to Port de Sóller, transport on the old tram from Port de Sóller to the old town, transport on the wooden train from Sóller to La Palma.
